This morning we opened the brown paper bag that contains our weekly organic loaf with suitable excitement. A squishy white loaf fresh from the hand built bread oven of Matthew Rawlings at The Great Northumberland Bread Company… Two slices were quickly cut for Oliver (11) and slathered in Nutella … It took a while for his face to crinkle up. The loaf is infused with garlic and even the most adventurous eater might struggle with a choco-hazelnut-garlic combo at 8am …

Lunchtime arrived and – what bliss – a fresh tomato pasta sauce from earlier in the week was piled high upon the toasted bread, Parmesan was scattered on the top and fresh basil shredded liberally around the place.
